Using Archive Control

The archiv_Client Control script must be started in order to be able to use the archiving function. Thus you must insert an extra item in the WinCC OA Manager start list that contains the following option:

WCCOActrl -f pvss_scripts.lst

Also check whether the data background manager WCCILdatabg is enabled (for archiving alarms).

It can be enabled manually by calling the WCCILdatabg manager in the start list. This is not necessary for new projects, the data starts the WCCILdatabg automatically. The WCCILdatabg manager must be started from the console after the WCCILdata manager. There is a script archiv_clientfor archiving the data on clients.

All entries made in input fields must be confirmed with RETURN.

Configuring and enabling the file cycle

The procedure described below for configuring the file cycle must be carried out separately for events and alarms in the Archive Control panel.

  1. Select the required resolution in the Resolution combo box.

  2. Enter the synchronized time.

  3. Specify the delete cycle by entering an integer multiple of the file cycle.

  4. The check box Only delete archived files automatically can be activated or deactivated depending on the application.

  5. Click on the Enable button.

Configuring the storage medium

A storage medium must be configured before it can be used. Clicking on the Configuration button opens the Archive Media Config panel. Here you can set up a new configuration and manage existing configurations. The settings made in the Archive Media Config panel can be selected in the Medium section of the Archive Control panel. The procedure described below for configuring the storage media must be carried out separately for events and alarms in the Archive Media Config panel.

Configuring the storage medium

  1. Click on the Configuration button in the Archive Control panel.

  2. Enter a name for the storage medium in the Medium field. You can choose any name you want but it should be as self-explanatory as possible. A practical name, for instance, for archiving on a 4 GB DAT tape would be DAT4GB.

  3. Click on the required type of storage medium in the Type selection list.

  4. Enter in the Total field the available capacity of the storage medium in kB. This figure is only needed for calculating the percentage occupancy.

  5. (Only for Linux) Specify a device file in the Device input field. This depends on the operating system and the type of storage medium.

  6. (Only for hard disks and MO disks under Linux) Enter the mount directory in the Mount directory input field.

  7. Enter the backup directory. For archiving on DAT tape enter the drive here.

  8. If more than one type needs to be configured, click on the Save button to save the settings made. Now the next type can be configured.

  9. Click on the OK button to save the settings made and to close the Archive Media Config panel.

Initializing the storage medium

A storage medium needs to be initialized once it has been configured. During the initialization process, the contents of the storage medium are deleted and the file MEDIA_NAME created. If initialization has been successful, the assigned ID, stated in the Name input field, is retained.

  1. Select a storage medium.

  2. Enter an ID in the Name input field.

  3. Click on the initialize button to initialize the storage medium.

Setting the parameters for archiving

The procedure described below for setting the archiving parameters must be carried out separately for events and alarms in the Archive Control panel.

  1. Enter the synchronized time.

  2. For a resolution of <daily, enter the storage cycle as an integer multiple of the file changeover period.

Starting the archiving process

Clicking on the Enable button adopts the settings made and enables them. The message "Events: imported files are being backed up - please wait" is displayed in the status bar during the archiving process. The file changeovers are updated in the table.

The storage medium can only be changed safely without harming the back-up if the storage medium is not being accessed at the time.
