Monitoring the hard disk

The panel for monitoring the hard disk shows the free memory space, allows configuration of the storage limits and contains the status display for the EM. The values are set for configuration to the data point type _DiskSpaceCheck.

The panel for monitoring the hard disk cannot be opened on a remote system.

Data point:

Choose the data point whose settings you want to be changed from the combo box. By default, _ArchivDisk and _ArchivDisk_2 (for redundant systems), as well as _BackupMedium are listed in the combo box. The data point _ArchivDisk is used for monitoring the project. The data point _BackupMedium is used to monitor an extra backup medium, for example, an extra hard disk used for backup purposes. If you need to monitor more disks, create new data points by means of the "Limit settings - hard disk" panel (see figure at the end of this page). Note that when the monitoring of the backup media is deactivated, the data point _BackupMedium might not contain the correct values.

Path

Displays the path to be monitored (corresponds to the DPE device).

Status

Displays the actual status of monitoring. Possible values are "OK", "OVER_LIMIT" and "STAT_ERROR". The status is shown only then, if the Data Manager is in an active emergency mode.

Min. free

As soon as the free hard disk space in MB is below this value, the monitoring status changes to "OVER_LIMIT". The minimum limit is the default value of 100 MB (corresponds to EmergencyKBLimit).

CAUTION: If "Free" is smaller than "Min.free", the emergency mode is initialized.

Total

Specifies the maximum available memory of the medium that was addressed via the selected data point.

Used

How much memory is reserved on the medium is specified in absolute and relative terms. This value is also represented by the bar on the right side of the dialog field.

Available

Indicates how much memory is available.

Infotext

The alert text that is configured in alert handling of the DPE FreeKB ("Hard disk OK", "Hard disk nearly full", "Hard disk full" and "Emergency mode") is displayed here.

Configuration

The information about the data point, path and free minimum memory is presented in a panel that you open through clicking on the Configuration button.

Data point

The data point that monitors the status can be selected from this combo box. By default, _ArchivDisk and _ArchivDisk_2 (for redundant systems) are listed in the combo box. With the button New data point ,you can create a new DP in the own system for status monitoring.

Note: The default data points _ArchivDisk[_2] and _BackupMedium[_2] must not be deleted.

Path

Enter the required drive or path to be monitored here.

Monitoring the hard-disk-capacity

The input fields for the limits are not active until this option has been activated.

Emergency mode at

Enter a limit in [MB] for which the emergency mode is initialized. When this limit is reached, the alert text "emergency mode" is set. The minimum limit is the default value of 100 MB. The alert texts are configured in the data point element FreeKB of the DP _DiskSpaceCheck).

Note: The emergency mode can only be left by restarting the Data Manager. This also applies if the EM was entered into through user input. You can prevent a check from being performed by means of the config entry checkMemory or checkDiskSpace.

Hard disk full alarm at

Enter a limit in [MB] for which an alarm for the hard disk space is triggered (the alert text "Hard disk full" is set).

Hard disk full warning at:

Enter a limit in [MB] for which an alarm for the hard disk space is triggered (the alert text "Hard disk nearly full" is set).

Example

  1. Click on the Memory / Disc resources button.

  2. Click on Configuration.

  3. Select _ArchivDisk from the combo box.

  4. Enter the limits (see above).

  5. Click OK.

The panel displays the memory space and free memory as described above. If the disk or the directory are below the limits, corresponding messages are issued or the system goes into emergency mode.
