Welcome to the WinCC OA license portal. Your journey begins right here at the login screen. But how do you get there?

Typically, you'll receive an invitation email just like this one. It contains all the essential details for logging in, including your unique access link and who invited you. After reviewing the invitation, your next step is simple: click the provided link. This will take you to the license portal's login page.

To proceed, you'll need a Siemens ID. If you don't have one yet, no worries—you can easily create one right here. For our Siemens colleagues, you can sign in using your Siemens Intra ID. For external users like me in this example, you'll use your registered email address. Simply click continue, then enter your password. You know the drill. Click login and you'll be taken directly to your groups.

Once logged in, you'll land in your main group, visible on the left. On the right, you'll see various information sections. Our main goal today is to show you the crucial first steps after receiving your invitation and getting started with the license portal.

After logging in, you'll be in a group. Its name might vary—perhaps your company or email. Look for and click on the Legacy License Inventory Project, easily identified by its unique icon. Inside, navigate to License Containers.

The core idea is to move all these legacy license containers into more organized groups and subgroups. This is actually the very first task for all our WinCC OA partners and customers transitioning to the new portal. I only have one container here, but you might see many more—perhaps 10, 20, or even a hundred. This process will create a much clearer, better structured overview of your WinCC OA licenses and containers. It ensures excellent visibility for future projects and helps you maintain full transparency over all your assets.

Let's get started. First, navigate to your main group. Click Add and then Create Group. I'll name this "Water Projects" and add "West" in the description for geographical context. You'll see your new group appear.

Now within Water Projects West, let's create a subgroup. This is perfect for organizing by end customer company names if you're an integrator, or by specific project names if you're an end user. Acting as an integrator, I'll name the subgroup "Company A"—perhaps a specific client or partner.

So now under Water Projects and Company A, we'll add our container. Instead of another group, we'll create a project. This is a best practice: ideally, each WinCC OA container should reside within its own dedicated project. This project level is our final sorting tier. I'll name this new project "Server 1" and add a description like "single system WinCC OA." Remember, you can use longer, more descriptive names. You'll see your new project appear, ready for further configuration. But for now, we're focused on moving that container.

Now, for the main event: moving our container. Return to the Legacy License Inventory Project and its License Containers. Before making any moves, you must enable changes. Simply click the Enable Changes button at the top. Once confirmed, your project is ready for modification.

Select the container you wish to move. Then click Choose Project from the dropdown. Select our newly created destination: Company A Server 1. This combines your subgroup and project names, making it easy to find. Confirm your selection. In the background, your container has already been shifted.

You're now finished with the Legacy License Inventory Project. Click Release Changes to publish your modifications. Releasing changes ensures no one else can modify the project while you're working, preventing conflicts.

This brings us to the ultimate goal: once you receive your invitation, your very first task is to empty that Legacy License Inventory Project by moving all containers into their correctly structured groups, subgroups, and final project destinations.

Let's quickly verify our move. Navigate to the License Containers within your new Server 1 project. Success! The container has been moved.

Now, back in your new project, remember to release changes here too, making your organized structure visible to everyone. This completes your essential first task in the license portal.
