Virtualization Platform Support Statement
The software is designed to operate on virtualized x86_64 guest operating systems and is architecturally hypervisor-agnostic.
Recommendation
The following virtualization platforms are regularly used by ETM for reference testing and validation:
- Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) 9.2.2
- Nutanix AHV – AOS 7.5 / AHV 11.0.0.2
- VMware ESXi / vSphere 9.1
- MS Hyper-V on Windows 11 Enterprise, Windows Server 2022 and Server 2025
These platforms are regularly used for full functional, performance, and lifecycle validation, including live migration, backup/restore scenarios, and network-based licensing operation.
Other Virtualization Platforms and Issue Handling
Due to the high level of standardization in modern hypervisors, identical guest operating system and WinCC OA configurations are generally expected to behave consistently across virtualization platforms. Therefore, other virtualization platforms (e.g.: Red Hat KVM, OpenShift Virtualization, …) are supported as well, if they offer equivalent virtual CPU, memory, network, and storage abstractions and comply with the documented WinCC OA system requirements.
Issues must be provided to ETM in a reproducible form on a supported WinCC OA operating system, independent of the virtualization platform. Where possible, providing the reproducible environment as an exported or backed-up Hyper-V or Proxmox virtual machine is preferred, as this can significantly simplify issue reproduction and analysis.
For the unlikely case of a hypervisor-specific issue, additional analysis and customer cooperation may be required, which can result in longer processing times.
