How to avoid Windows error dialogues?

If an process is stopped unexpectedly, Windows usually pops up an error dialogue. As long as the pop up is opened the process is still running. Consequently WinCC OA can't restart the process until this dialogue is confirmed. To avoid this behaviour the following settings can be applied to disable the automatic dialogue:

1) Creating / Changing the registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\DontShowUI = 1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\DontShowUI = 1

2) Second possibility to disable the application error popup window:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\ErrorMode = 2

For your information, the 0 value data by default means that all popup messages are visible.
As for 1, only system messages are invisible. An example of this type of message is: “Virtual Memory Minimum Too Low.” When set to 2, all messages are invisible. So setting 2 to ErrorMode will suppress all error popups that has to do with memory access violations.

After changing the settings at the registry the computer has to be rebooted.

Please also check the settings for Dr. Watson. The configuration dialogue is opened when starting the command drwtsn32.exe. The option for the visual notification has to be disabled.
