In which context are custom comps necessary? I heard they are necessary in case of video usage. But would more than one custom comp be necessary in a redundant system with a IEC104 driver, OPC UA Client/Server, maintenance package and scheduler?

The custom component license option is needed for API managers.
Normally only 1 license option is required for a single component, but you can run the project with a developer license and check how many custom components are in use.
It seems the video manager uses 1 custom component besides the video license options.
