Gedi will freeze/crash. Any ideas ?

Post by fmulder »

I'm using several versions 3.19/3.20 and have noticed the following issue since last friday (although I installed nothing on my laptop). I'm using a developers license.
I would assume that my problems are caused by some kind of Windows update and hope that you can give me a solution or osme ideas to fix this issue

I can start my (development phase) projects without any issue. All seems to start fine. The problem has the following 2 symptoms:

* The gedi will not stop when you stop the project. I need to kill the gedi
* I can 'save and run' a panel. But, when I then close the panel (click on the cross in the titlebar) then my Gedi will freeze for 30 seconds or freeze completely

Do you have any idea for me. Any tips that I could check ?

Which patchlevels are you using?
As there where fixes related to GEDI crashes in later patch versions.
Therefore I would suggest to test again with the latest patchlevels available for 3.19 and 3.20.

Same behaivor here.

This only occurs in 1 of our 3 dev machines. In our case, all of them windows with 3.17P32 previusly installed and added the 3.20P03 (updated to 3.20P04 after).

After unninstall the old 3.17 this issues persist, but we have not spend to much on this.

If we found more info or how to fix this we will update the post.

When a Desktop UI is started on the machine the server project is running on and the Desktop UI instance is not yet unlocked, the GEDI cannot be started as it will immediately be terminated again. Following steps will resolve this problem:
Stop the webclient_http.ctl, this allows to open the GEDI again.
Navigate to System Management > Device Managementand unlock the local machine with the corresponding checkbox.
Restart the webclient_http.ctl.
To prevent this problem, the automatic unlock for Desktop UIs can be activated.

In our case, and i supose also for fmulder, this bug is not related about webclient_http.ctl.

Is as simple as open a winccoa project administrator, console, or GEDI an try to close any winccoa windows that kills a process.

Then, as fmulder explains, winccoa will be freezed (state 3 in case of user interface -m gedi).

The problem persist also in the 3.10p6 version. Generally, freezing occurs for various file operations - opening config file from project console, saving panel, script file from Gedi, etc. Any solution to this problem in the meantime?

I assume you mean WinCC OA 3.20.6?
Which operating system are you using?

Please submit a support request so we can analyze the problem.
