No writable system menu directory found.

Post by frankySie »

a linux installation shows this error:

xdg-desktop-menu: No writable system menu directory found.
error: %post(WinCC_OA_3.11-help-en-0-0.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 3
...
xdg-desktop-menu: No writable system menu directory found.
error: %post(WinCC_OA_3.11-help-de-0-0.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 3

What does this error mean?
Is it critical?

What folder should it be?

It seems that you neither run a KDE nor a GNOME session on this PC, so the installation does not know where to install
the "startmenu" entries to.
I think it should not pose a problem but I never checked that case.

P.S:The mentioned xdg command is a shellscript which we install in the bin dir - you can check what it does.
