Using the modbus driver with local RS485 COM Port?

Post by daniel.ponader »

Dear all,
is there any way to connect to Modbus RTU devices by using a local RS485 COM Port on a WinCC OA server PC (Windows). We want to connect some Modbus RTU temperature monitoring devices without using a Modbus RTU/TCP Gateway if possible. For the coming edge computing version of WinCC OA which was announced on the user days the RS485 ports of the IOT2040 will be also usable , won't they?
Thanks and best Regards
Daniel

The WinCC OA Modbus driver supports Modbus/TCP.
You probably can use an OPC driver in WinCC OA and an OPC server which supports Modbus RTU.

The WinCC OA Modbus driver also supports Modbus/RTU. So with (simple) COM/TCP gateway software it should be possible to use the local COM port.

Thanks for the answers. We already use Modbus RTU via RTU/TCP Gateway. The idea was to use the anyway existing RS485 COM Ports on the IPC for some "slow" sensor signals. If this not possible we will continue with the Gateway ;-)

Thanks and best regards
