MQTT driver: Can it subscribe? Or only publish?
I am evaluating whether to consider using the new MQTT driver for connecting WinCC OA to Maximo. The owners of Maximo prefer that our solution is bidirectional, which would require MQTT drive to both publish AND subscribe. The help is not decisive on the subject, but appears to only support write (p...

<r>Good info on ASM. Re: RAID 10 stripe size for Oracle Server
We learned through ETM feedback that ASM handles the striping on it's own, so we don't need to worry about stripe size when using ASM. The hardware RAID controller is set at RAID 1 and then ASM turns it into RAID 10.

RAID 10 stripe size for Oracle Server
<t>We are building a RAID of 6 x 4TB drives. My understanding of RAID optimization for Oracle is that random, write intensive uses work best on RAID 10. The next big decision that can have a large impact on DB performance is stripe size. Options for our LSI RAID controller range from 64KB to 1MB. <b...

Re: WinCC OA 3.14 install OpenSuse
I tested it in a VM by adding the ganglia:musescore2 repository. Install works. OA runs. While OA is not officially supported on Leap, it seems that Leap may be better supported by Novell than 13.2. Is ETM looking into supporting Leap?

Re: Oracle server CPU selection
<t>I will be using a high-end LSI raid controller card - not motherboard. In your experience of CPU load, were you running report queries against the DB? We aren't doing much with our server yet, and generally cpu utilization is very low, but when we run a query against a large data set, it can peg ...

Re: Oracle server CPU selection
I was thinking RAID6 of SSDs.
But my question was primarily about CPU speed. I can get 2.4 GHz 10 core cpus for about the same price as 4 core 3.5 GHz. Which is preferable for use in an Oracle server with OA, only 1-2 occasional reporting clients?

<r>We are specifying server hardware for OA. I know enough about database server requirements to know that applications like a data warehouse and reporting are generally considered to function better with a higher number of cores, and correspondingly lower clock speed. When single thread performance...

Where to start learning?
<t>I am just getting ready to get started learning WinCC OA prior to developing an industrial controls SCADA project. I have experience with Rockwell's RS View and Visual Basic, but that was many years ago and I haven't scripted in years. I hope to attend basic training with some guys from my team i...
