Send and receive SMS messages, basics

The send and receive SMS feature allows to send SMS (Short Message Service) messages directly from WinCC OA as well as to receive them in WinCC OA. You can send SMS messages from WinCC OA to a GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) cell phone via a cell phone or a GSM modem as well as from a cell phone or a modem to WinCC OA.

The messages are sent and received via internal data point elements. The actual sending and receiving of messages is performed by a runtime control script which has to run when you want to send or receive messages. In WinCC OA the messages are written and displayed in an easy to use panel. You can also integrate the control script in your own application and create your own panel for sending and receiving of SMS messages.

This feature is useful e.g. if you are working (on standby) and an alert occurs. By creating a script in alert classes via PARA, you can easily set WinCC OA to send you a message when an alert occurs.

This help contains a detailed description of the send and receive SMS feature including the control functions. It also demonstrates the Demo panel for sending and receiving of SMS messages. It should help you to familiarize yourself with the SMS feature and control functions as well as facilitate the use of the SMS panel.
