WinCC OA Licensing

Overview of the licensing model used by WinCC OA

To operate WinCC OA licenses are required. The licenses can be handled by the customer. The WinCC OA licensing provides:

  • Dynamic and easily expandable licenses
  • You can manage licenses autonomously - you can order feature licenses individually (price lists are available)
  • Licenses are easily migrated (no hardware code necessary)
  • For the WinCC OA licensing options, see chapter WinCC OA Licensing Options
  • For more information, get in contact with your sales consultant.

For more information, see chapters Activate Virtual Container and Assign to Real Container for how to activate a license, License Information Panel for the description of the License Information panel used to activate, deactivate, update or re-host a license and Check License Information for checking license information via the CodeMeter WebAdmin web page.

License Information Panel

  • Use the License Information panel to activate, deactivate, update or re-host a license. For more information, see chapter License Information Panel.
    Note:
You can activate multiple licenses simultaneously.
  • View license information such as available licenses, license options, containers etc.

CodeMeter Control Center and WebAdmin

WinCC OA Licensing uses the CodeMeter Control Center.

The licenses can also be managed via the CodeMeter WebAdmin page. On the WebAdmin page you can:

  • View license information such as available licenses etc.
  • Configure a license server.

For more information, see chapter Runtime Settings and Check License Information.

License Containers

In WinCC OA Licensing containers that hold licenses are being used. Several containers can exist.

The software containers can be divided into:

  • software containers (CmActLicense): for which no specific hardware is required
    • developer edition
    • production edition
  • hardware containers (dongles)

For more information on containers, see chapter WinCC OA Licensing, Further Information.

Offline Licensing File Types

When working with systems that cannot connect directly to the internet for license activation, WinCC OA uses a file-based offline licensing workflow. This process involves transferring specific file types between online and offline systems to manage license operations securely.

The following file types are used in offline licensing operations:

File Type Description Usage in Workflow
.WibuCmRaC, .RAC Remote Access Update Certificate Contains license updates or activation data. Generated on an online PC and transferred to the target offline system for license installation.
.WibuCmRaU, .RAU Remote Access Update Request Contains license requests or system information. Created on the offline target system and transferred to an online PC for processing.
.Receipt Transaction Receipt Provides confirmation that a licensing operation was successfully completed. Used for verification, audit trails, and tracking offline licensing transactions.1

These files enable secure license management in air-gapped or restricted network environments where direct internet connectivity is not available. The typical workflow involves creating request files on the offline system, processing them on an online system, and transferring the resulting certificate files back to complete the licensing operation.

For detailed step-by-step instructions on using these files in offline licensing workflows, see License Information Panel.
