Hi Experts,
I need some guidance on cameras/video interface with one WinCC OA.
I have one DRS configuration and I need to interface approx 500 video IP cameras.
I want to associate these cameras with certain alarms. So in case of a particular alarm its associated camera stream should be displayed on desktop UI.
Here are my questions
1 - How many cameras can be interfaced with DRS configuration.?
2 - How many video servers i will be needing for 500 cameras.?
3 - Do I need physical machines for each video server or I can put all video servers on a virtual host as VMs.
4 - What is the recommended specifications for a OA Video Server?
5 - Do WinCC OA video server supports linux?
Best Regards,
ilyas.

Re: WinCC OA Video Server
Hi,
we cannot give you a general advice on how to chose your server configurations. The video system's requirements depend on multiple factors like CPU, RAM, Networks, GPU...! However, this does not affect wether it's a DRS system or not.
The online help provides lots of information regarding server's HW and system architecture. Please have a look at this first to get a feeling of what could be needed in your environment.
To give you some answers to your questions:
1) 500 could also work with 1 video server only, depening on
-) if all cameras are active simultaneously
-) video resolution
-) server HW
-) if the recording is activated
-) ...
2) Depends on your architecture and the server's HW, see above
3) The video server is able to run on VM's as well. The client should be on a native system (better graphical representation)
4) All HW settings and recommandations can be found in the help
5) Server NO, Client YES
I think in the next patches (or at least for the next version 3.16) Linux will be supported for the server as well.
br,
Jochen

Re: WinCC OA Video Server
With this number of cameras and possibly this many simultaneously streams the network configuration should be capable to handle the required bandwidth.

Thanks for the help.
System Planner in WinCC OA help file explain it well in detail.
