Problem with Windows Time-Server

Post by johna_ssa »

Our v3.14 redundant distributed system running on Windows 7 is configured to use the built in Windows Time-Server (NTP) to synchronize the PC clocks. I've attached a text file that describes how I configured time server and client PC's in the network. This is an air-gapped network so the time server is one of the Windows computers on the network. The redundant severs and six distributed systems are connected via Siemens cell modems. Network latency is consistently 300 mSec - 750 mSec. I assume there is some packet loss as well. This is difficult environment for NTP.

Windows Time-Server appears to work reasonably well in this environment. However, approximately once a month or so one of the distributed PCs just stops synchronizing with the time server in the control room. Eventually that PC's clock wanders out more than 30 secs off from the OA server and we lose connection to that PC. When this has happened, performing a "w32tm /resync" from the command line with administrator rights is enough to restart the automatic clock synchronization.

Has anyone seen this problem too? Is anyone using a different time sync solution on Windows? https://www.winccoa.com/fileadmin/image ... s7_NTP.txt
