Is Profibus driver available inside WinCC OA

Post by steiner »

Hi,
Is it possible to use Profibus card like Siemens CP5622 directly with WinCC OA (native driver) or is it Simatic NET OPC also needed ?
And how to use Profibus interface inside Linux OS?

Thanks.

Hello,

I had a look at the specification for this card. As I'm no hardware specialist I cannot give you detailed information.
As far as I've seen you need also a Simatic software package for the communication. Then it should be possible to communicate using the S7 driver or an OPC driver.

A Simatic software toolkit for Linux might not be available.

For detailed information please get in contact with the hardware vendor or the hardware distributor in your country.

Hello Leopold,

Thank you for your answer. Yes, Siemens already inform me the native driver for Profibus card is not available inside WinCC OA therefore the Simatic NET OPC looks the only possible solution. But this will be complicate implementation with Linux. It looks no simple solutions for my old configuration with old Profibus network, I know ethernet will be easier but will require too much installations.

You're only option would be to install the WinCC OA OPC client on any PC. You could, for example, install the OPC client on one of your (hopefully Windows) clients.
Good luck
