I found this line on the ETM site that states :-
“WinCC OA for 32-bit systems will not be further developed after launch of Version 3.12. The only exception is the Web Client which can be run in 32-bit and 64-bit operation”
I’m reading this as saying it would still work for 32bit systems under 3.12 but it won’t be further developed. So is there still a 32bit installer out there for 3.12 as I desperately need it for my client PC’s running 32bit Windows 7 Professional ? I don’t want to reimage 30 clients PC’s into 64bit versions just to make all this work.
I’ve just upgraded from 3.10 to 3.12 and now have a totally incompatible system with 2x servers running Server 2008 R2 64bit and 5 development PC’s running Windows 7 Professional 64bit. My issue is now I have 30 Lenovo Q180 small form factor console PC’s on my test site running Windows 7 Professional 32bit that I can’t upgrade from 3.10 to 3.12 ? Help !

Re: Missing 32bit Installer for Windows v3.12
Hello,
a 32bit installation for WinCC OA 3.12 is not available for WinCC OA server-systems.
For user-interface clients you can use the Web Client-installation, also as 32bit clients.
Please have a look at the online help to see how the Web Client can be used: Special functions --> Web Client.

Re: Missing 32bit Installer for Windows v3.12
Hi Leopold, thanks for your quick reply
Unfortunately, that’s not really the answer I was looking for. We were sold an upgrade from v3.10 to 3.12 under the assumption it was exactly that, just a software upgrade. I never planned on any other configuration changes other than an upgrade to the projects. I was never made aware that a 32bit O\\S would not be supported in 3.12 as clearly I now have 30 UI clients’ licenses that don’t work. Nobody ever said "swap your clients for web clients" if you want this to still work....
My test site is running as a rapid prototype solution for a very importand customer and is configured as closely as possible to their final target solution. It is used as a customer sign off facility and must look, feel and behave exactly the same as it has for the last few years under v3.10 ie 32bit Windows 7 Pro, full WinCCOA UI clients etc. I can’t now explain to them they must use a web interface to access the application, neither can we afford the downtime in re-imaging’s and configuring the 30 clients from 32bit to 64bit just to make this one application work. Why was the 32bit installer removed from the 3.12 package if customers like myself still need it ?

Re: Missing 32bit Installer for Windows v3.12
Hello,
the 32bit installation was removed because 32bit server systems are no longer supported and also the majority of our customers is using 64 bit systems.
For supporting 32bit UI-clients the web-client installation is still part of WinCC OA.
When using the WebClient there is no need to start the UI in a browser window. You can also start the user interface directly with a short cut.
WCCOAWebClient.exe -server
For the installation of the package the customer has to open a browser, typing the URL for the connection to the server.
One advantage of the Web Client is that the clients make an automatic upgrade of project specific files (panels, pictures, ...), if they have been changed at the server. The upgrade is made when the client has to read the files to display the panels.

Re: Missing 32bit Installer for Windows v3.12
Hi Leopold,
We don’t have the relevant http server\\client licences in our shield file for this to work sorry Leopold, but thanks anyway.
It’s looking like the only way forward for me is to re-image all my client PC’s with Windows 7 Professional 64bit when I can find the time. This is only for a few months anyway as we planned on hardware refresh next quarter using Siemens Nanobox PC’s in place of the Lenovo Q180’s.
I planned on using Windows 7 Pro 32bit on the Nanobox as they only have 2GB of RAM but I’ll have to see how they run with Windows 7 Pro 64bit before I roll this out across the test site.

Re: Missing 32bit Installer for Windows v3.12
Hello,
currently we do not support the Nanobox.
With the Version 3.13 (end of this year) we will support the 32Bit Nanobox.
But will need to make some limitations due to performance tests we have done:
e.g.:
- no hot-standby redundancy (beaucse of performance)
- limited UI functionality (because of the fact that there is only a onboard graphic card)
For more Details I will send you an personal message
best wishes

Re: Missing 32bit Installer for Windows v3.12
You could also connect each client with RemoteDesktop with the server and start the UI in the Autostart of the Windows-user.
We connect Clients this way, so we don't have to install WinCC OA stuff on the client-computers.
Win CC OA is runnning as service on the Server. Server should be configured that the session is closed when a Remote-Desktop client disconnects.
Of course with this solution you need a server licence with more users.
We make for each client a different User, so that in the Autostart of this users we can start UI's with different UI-numbers.

Re: Missing 32bit Installer for Windows v3.12
When using a terminal server for the user interface clients we recommend to install an own machine for these clients to split the load for the WinCC OA server and the terminal server. Otherwise you can have negative side effects on the server processes if the terminal processes are using a lot ressources (CPU, memory).
In the current case discussed in this thread the customer is having more than 30 UI-clients.
As mentioned the advantage of the terminal server is that you do not need to install software at the clients.
A disadvantage is that all clients are lost if the terminal server has problems caused by software or the hardware (performance issues, hardware defect, ...).
