Oracle redundancy

Post by aorange »

Hi guys,

I am looking for a bit of guidance for a project that I am working on; a customer has requested a redundant RDB solution and I cannot seem to find the information that I need in the help files. Am I correct in thinking that WinCC-OA does not handle the connection or synchronisation of data between two separate Oracle DB servers?

How have other WinCC-OA customers dealt with database redundancy? is Oracle DataGuard the only option?

Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) is since version 3.11 the only supported redundant RDB solution.
The data synchronisation is handled by Oracle and the connection by the oracle client.

Isn't the RAC supported even in lower versions of WinCC OA / PVSS for ex. PVSS 3.9?

Hello,

when looking at the online help for PVSS 3.9 you'll find a reference to Oracle RAC.
In our internal database I also found some information which needs to be configured for a Oracle RAC related to version 3.9.

If your question is related to a service request in the Siemens Support database please refer to this service request if you need additional information.

There is something more: http://www.winccoa.net/index.php?solution_id=542 (but i think not for 3.9)

And of course a Real Application Cluster - in that case you should really think about an Oracle Engineered System "Oracle Database Appliance". Best configuration for a RAC, easy setup saves lot of time, pretty nice piece of hardware - and you can use it also as a Virtual Appliance - which means you have a full HA / Fault Tolerance Virtualization Platform - put your WinCC OA Servers and more machines virtualized on it ... and save hardware...
