Sync. on sec. in poll groups

Post by dbindernagel »

Hi all,

I have a question about the sync. on sec. setting for poll groups.

My problem is as follows:
I currently have one poll group (Mode: Poll Time; Poll time: 2.500 ms) in my project with a lot of datapoints.
I would like to create multiple poll groups (with the same poll time of 2.500 ms) but have them started 1 second apart to "even out" the polling over time.

But I am having trouble understanding the setting "Mode: Both" with "Synchronization time: Sync. on sec.".
I thought I could specifiy the second the polling should start for every group and it would then continue using the poll time but I cannot specify 0s, and also my poll time needs to be bigger than the "Sync. on sec." time which does not make sense to me.

For example I want to create 4 poll groups, all with 2.500 ms poll time. First group should start at second 0, second group should start at second 1, etc.

Can someone explain to me if what I want is possible or how the "Sync. on sec." setting works.

In the WinCC OA Documentation I can find the following information:
When using Synchronization based on seconds, the Poll time must be higher than the synchronization interval or else the synchronization mechanism will not be used.

I have tested it with 2 poll groups with an interval of 10 seconds and a sync time of 3 and 7 seconds.
The pull requests have been made at the correct times in a 10 second interval.

Thank you for the info. I take it, what I wanted to try is not possible than:
Having 4 groups, each with the same poll time of 2.500ms and each group "starting" 1 second apart so they don't overlap each other (I know sometimes they still would). Sync time would need to be bigger than poll time which is not possible for some reason.

I am not sure what problem you are facing, that you think can fixed by spreading the pollgroups over time.

But you could set the sync on the seconds 0, 1 & 2 and leave the fourth group at a random time (without sync second).
