How many Archive Manager possible and practical?

Post by johanningmann »

Hi,
we running WinCCOA 3.16 Patch 25 and I would like to know if there is an limitiation of how many Archive Manager can run in parallel?

We planning to go up to the ammount of 20 Archive Manager and the files size is about 1.5Gb for each Archive.
Will we run into trouble ?
Where are the limitiation?

Kind regards,

Using 20 archive managers is possible.
Before configuring such a high number of archive managers with a sisze of 1.5 GB for a new file you should check such a configuration is really needed.
Why would use archive files of 1.5 GB?
How many elements shall be saved in every archive?

There is a limit of processes (100) which can handled by the process monitor.
For the archive managers there is the same limit as for all other managers in WinCC OA. You cannot use more than 254 of the same type.

Dear Mr. Knipp,
thank you for the reply. We have to configure such an high amount of Archive Manager due to fact the we are collecting high frequency Data (100ms sampling time) and we have to keep than and cannot compress the data after some time. In one archive we save 515 elements by a number of 60.000. This end`s up in an file size of app.1,5GB.
The project increase because of new feature/data source`s we have to add to the system.

One general question, will the new 3.18 NGA (influxDB) handle such ammount of data in a good manner?

Kind regards,

If you have 20 archive managers with 515 elements and a change rate of 100 ms you will have about 100.000 VC / sec.
Are you sure that your system is capable of handling such a high amount of value changes?
What is the estimated constant load in your system?

With a change rate of 100 ms 1 archive files can store data for about 6.000 seconds.
Wouldn't it not make more sense to reduce the size to 40.000 values and to do an hourly file switch?

If you are using a redundant system you have to ensure that new files are created in a cyclic interval and not by reaching the limit of maximum value entries.
