3.17 - Cannot set locale on empty DB

Post by weirdal »

Hello

Running on CentOS 8 with WinCC OA 3.17 patch 11.

After creating a new, empty legacy project with 24 languages (or any other number of languages), there are messages in the logviewer at startup saying "cannot set locale "de_DE.utf8"...
This message is displayed for most of the managers in the project, eg. Data, Event, Archives, CtrlManagers...
Even if I set another one of the 24 languages as default in config, the same message appears for the set language.

This happens with a completely new and empty database.

Any hints on how to resolve this?

This problem is not related to the database in your project.
Does this log message on any of your systems or only at one machine?

Why are you using a project with 24 languages?

Please take into account that a higher number of languages causes a higher memory consumption and bigger databases.
A project should only have the really required languages to save resources.

It appears not only on one CentOS 8 machine, however it does not appear when creating a legacy project in an Windows installation.

24 languages are a customer requirement.

If the message appears only for a few languages can you please check for which languages the message is not written.
In my test machine I have a multi language project, the log message does not appear.

Does the customer really need a runtime project with 24 languages?
Does he have the requirement to connect UI managers with 24 different languages to the same server?

The problem also occurs with an empty project and only like 8 languages...

However, most of the log entries do not occur once I add the line

Code: Select all

lang = "auto"
to the config file.

They only appear for UI managers with this entry.

I have not noticed any negative side effects so far, but it would still be good to know why this log message is written and how to avoid it.
