Rectangle over a text field

Hi, just an easy question. Is it possible to display a filled rectangle (i.e. with shading effect) over a text field?
I have tried to manipulate the layers of both objects but Text field is always over the rectangle.

We need that for displaying an invalid status of some analog values, i.e. if communication is down.

No, this is not possitble.
A complex graphic object (widget) is always displayed on top of simple graphic objects.
If you set the text field to disabled you maybe get the look&feel you want to have.
