Our WinCC OA project is now running since more than 2 years with user authentication via Active Directory. But now we got a warning in the log viewer, that there is a problem with OaAuthMethodAD.ctc.
Here you can see the entry in the log viewer:
WCCOActrl (1), 2019.09.25 07:59:12.946, CTRL, INFO, 0, , Cyclic updateUserGroups running every 60 minutes.
WCCOActrl (1), 2019.09.25 07:59:12.974, CTRL, WARNING, 5/ctrl, Location of the following log entry: updateUserGroups.ctl Library: E:\Siemens\Automation\WinCC_OA\3.16\scripts\libs\classes/auth/OaAuthMethodAD.ctc
Line: 173
WCCOActrl (1), 2019.09.25 07:59:12.974, SYS, WARNING, 54, Unexpected state, updateUserGroups.ctl Library: E:\Siemens\Automation\WinCC_OA\3.16\scripts\libs\classes/auth/OaAuthMethodAD.ctc
Line: 173, A device attached to the system is not functioning. (0x0000001f=31)
Actually the WCCILpmon service is running on the Windows 2012 Server with a domain user, who is Administrator on the Server and is entered also as a user in the Active Directory.
We became aware of the problem as we wanted to enter a new User. Our IT department entered this User in the WinCC OA User group and the user was also shown in the User permission of the System Manager in WinCC OA. But he was not shown as a member of the specified WinCC OA user group and according to that he didn't had any permission.
Would be helpful to get a better understanding, why this warning popped up in the log viewer.
Kind regards
Horst Schevel

Re: Active Directory User Authentication
Can you please add the information which WinCC OA version and which patch you are using.
We need to have this information to find the correct source code which is related to the log messages.
It looks like the error occurs when the system tries to read the user groups defined in AD.
The system error code " A device attached to the system is not functioning. (0x0000001f=31)" which is given at the log message is a Windows error code.
Possibly your system administration can give you more information for this error code.

Re: Active Directory User Authentication
Hello Leopold,
thanks for your quick response.
We are using WinCC OA 3.16 Patch 7 on a Windows Server 2012R2 system. We have change our WinCC OA version from 3.15 Patch 7 to this newer version end of March 2019.
We will contact our system administration but it would be very helpful to know, which comment/function in line 173 is the reason for this error.
Best Regards
