Where is the Stdlib ?

Post by felmi1020 »

Hi,
I'm a very very beginner with WinCC OA. I'm a graphic designer and I've been asked to create a custom symbols library for WiinCC OA. I've installed the 3.16 demo version.

In the on-line help I read:
Open the symbol catalog of the Stdlib (GEDI menu View -> Catalogs -> \Stdlib_<Version>).

But from the menu View -> Catalogs I can only choose between two directories:
1. The directory where I've decided to store my projects
2. The directory C:\Siemens\Automation\WinCC_OA\3.16\

If I choose the first I don't see anything if I choose the second I get a panel with the STD_OBJECTS (INDICATORS, LEDS, ...) but where is the Stdlib?

But, even more important, is there somewhere a PDF document or a video tutorial that explain how to create new symbols?

In the past I had to do the same for System Platform but fortunately Wonderware produces amazingly well done documentation and there is a detailed written tutorial that explains step by step how to create a new symbol.

Thank you
Best regards
Franco Elmi

If you want to use the Standard Lib you have to add it as a sub project (proj_path = "...") to your project settings defined in the config file.
When using WinCC OA 3.16 the name of the directory is "WinCC OA installation path/Stdlib_3.16".

Before you start working with WinCC OA we suggest to attend a WinCC OA basic training to learn how WinCC OA works and how to use the GEDI (graphical editor) and the PARA (data model editor).
If you are interested in a training please get in contact with your common WinCC OA sales contact.
