Connecting to S7-1500 PLCSIM usinf S7+ driver

I am trying. rather unsucessfully, to connect WinCC OA V3.15 to PLCSIM V14 SP1, which has been configured using TIA Portal V14.
The PLC being emulated is a 1500.
The driver configuration used is:
PLC TYpe: S7-1500
Access point: S7ONLINE (I also tried PLCSIM and that didn't work either)
PG/PC interface: PLCSIM S7-1200/S7-1500.TCPIP.1 (also tried PLCSIM.TCPIP.1, PLCSIM.TCPIP_internal.1, PLCSIM.Local, PLCSIM.Local_internal, PLCSIM.ISO.1, PLCSIM.ISO_internal.1 but they didn't work either).
IP address is set correctly at: 172.16.5.100 and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 (works fine for TIA as it can "download" to the PLCSIM).
Log file shows the following errors repeatedly:
WCCOAs7plus (1), 2018.03.12 11:06:15.002, SYS, SEVERE, 94, Driver communication failure, failure condition on HmiConnection, _PLCSIM
WCCOAs7plus (1), 2018.03.12 11:06:36.012, CTRL, SEVERE, 12/s7plus, Login to PLC for Connection 1 failed with error -270
No tags are defined as yet, just trying to get the base connection to establish.
Any ideas as I have exhausted all mine.
